Scrabble Flash Cubes

Scrabble Flash Cubes Let You Play and Learn at the Same Time

Scrabble Flash Cubes

Scrabble Flash Cubes is a nifty take on an old family favorite.  Rather than the traditional game with many little tiles, holders and a board, Scrabble Flash Cubes has only 5 pieces and a sleek box to keep them in.  Many parents are finding this to be a great travel game because of the new format so it’s great take-a-long game for car trips or just running errands.

The five pieces that come in Scrabble Flash Cubes take advantage of new technology as they have digitally displayed letters and the cubes interact with each other.  Called SmartLink, the tiles actually communicate with each other as you form words and then will even add up your score when you’re finished.

When you do make a word from the letters, the tiles not only light up but also beep for you.  This tells you that the Scrabble Flash Cubes has noted the word plus it’s just plain fun to see and hear your victories.  The two inch tiles will show five random letters and you move the tiles around to try to form words.  When the tiles touch, they recognize the words as said above.

The game is recommended for ages 8 and up, but if you have a younger child who is good at spelling they would probably have fun with this.  And for the lower age ranges, there is an option to play with only 4 letter tiles instead of all 5, so Scrabble Flash Cubes is quite adaptable to different ages.

There are three game modes and can be played alone or with a group.  If you used paper to track scores, you could easily play for a longer time than the  game says.  Each tile uses a CR2032 watch battery and the set comes with batteries included, a refreshing and money-saving change these days.

Mattel Loopz Game

Unlease the Fun with Mattel Loopz

Mattel Loopz Game

Remember the Simon Says game where you had to press the lights in the order they flashed?  They got faster and more complex as you went to really test your memory. Well, Mattel Loopz is the modern version of the Simon Says concept that has incorporated some cool technological advances.

The game is a stand-alone device, with four semi-circle rings arranged in a square. Each semi-circle is lined with neon colored lights and motion sensors.  Instead of pressing the lights in the order needed, players must actually wave their hands through the holes (“loopz”).  Since the game is also musical, the gameplay of Mattel Loopz is more than just a memory challenge.

Mattel Loopz also provides a challenging, skill-building exercise involving rhythm, reflexes and memory all at the same time.  Not only does the game make the kids exercise their brains, but they even get some physical exercise trying to keep up with the fast-paced lights.

You can play Mattel Loopz by yourself or with up to four players since there are seven different game modes: Repeat the Beat, Reflex Master, Rhythm and Flow, Musicology, Freestyle DJ, Music Studio and Versus Mode.  From simply trying to repeat the ever-growing complexity of a series of notes and lights, all the way to making your own music, Mattel Loopz has a variety built-in that will keep the kids entertained for a very long time.

Mattel Loopz is recommended for age 7 and up, although some younger children may enjoy some of the simpler game modes.  The game definitly gets complex and challenging enough to keep it exciting all the way up through adulthood, making this a great game for the entire family.

The game unit itself is only about a foot square and comes with an easy-to-assemble 2 circle base, along with directions for gameplay.  It operates on 4 AA batteries and since Mattel Loopz is so addictive, it might be a good idea to get rechargeable batteries.

Angry Birds Knock On Wood Game

Angry Birds Knock On Wood Game is Fun for the Whole FamilyAngry Birds Knock On Wood Game

When the Angry Birds app was first released just before Christmas 2 years ago, even the developer didn’t realize what a sensation this new and addictive puzzle game would be. The popularity of it, however, took off so much that the app sold over 12 million copies and new versions have been created for other platforms.  The Angry Birds Knock on Wood Game now brings the fun to the age 5–9 group, as well as the entire family.

What the creators have done is created a hybrid type of game with skill and action play both involved.  Angry Birds Knock on Wood Game has players attempting to build structures that are shown on picture “mission” cards.  While they do that, their opponent will be trying to knock down the structure and green pigs by using the enclosed slingshot to launch the three Angry Birds at them.

All the pieces are nice and sturdy, so made to hold up to younger children.  The rules of playing Angry Birds Knock on Wood Game are simple and easy to learn and since the “missions” are pictorial, no reading is necessary.  Although it says for ages 5-9, older kids and parents will have fun and be challenged by some of the structures they need to build.

Angry Birds Knock on Wood Game is great for teaching young children how to take turns, figure out how to solve problems and also helps build fine motor skills.  At the same time, being able to throw the Angry Birds figures with the slingshot keeps enough action to maintain their interest.

Don’t be surprised if your child sits and plays with this game all by themselves.  With or without the “mission” cards, your child could have hours of fun simply building various improbable structures.  Of course, a large part of the fun from Angry Birds Knock on Wood will always be from making those birds knock the towers down again and tumbling the pigs in the process.
